Skaven blood bowl team: Slaves to the Piper
Well so much for a
weekly blog...2 weeks for the follow up and that was with material
pre prepared!!
My 2nd
team for blood bowl was started in October 2016 with the intention of
having ready to compete in the painting competition at the NAF
championship 2017 8 months later. The bulk of he team was ready and
based in time, but a few lineman and a blitzer weren't fully done so
whilst I played (and even won 2 games) I didn't enter the painting
comp.
Another 3 to 4
months later and not much progress has been made with 6 bases still
needed and 3 linerats needing to be finished...I also have a coach
model started (my first little diorama) but not very far progressed.
Anyway that will probably be the subject of a later blog.
As I need to start
on my NAF championship 2018 team I'm presenting this team as it
stands.
Painting notes:
- 3 new weathering
techniques tried:
1 - stippling with
foam pads to create rust spots on the armour;
2 – painting
armour scratches; and
3 – weathering
pigments
Steps 1 and 2 worked
well, but can be made smoother with practice. Best example of number
2 is the green leather head armour of the big guy rat ogre.
Step 3 was tried on
the bottom of gutter runners cloaks and is a nice touch, but I will
need to vary the application more in future as it looks like a fairy
straight line of dirt on each of these models.
- Use of GW yellow
and green glazes helped to create brighter / bolder yellow armour and
green leather and cloaks
- use of stones and
28mm bones on the bases, The stones were meant to glow purple, but
time meant I dry brushed them lighter on the outside rather than a
white/purple in the middle and getting darker on the outside to give
the impression of light source. Must not forget this in future and
will try it out on the coaches base.
Paints:

GW yriel yellow > GW Falsh Gitz yellow > GW Lamenters yellow

Next time is
probably going to be a look at my home made lava bases.
The Ostland Piper

Nice post again and it's with a sad honestly that I have admit that you paint Skaven better than myself, not that it's hard to do that, my own painting skills are nowhere near yours, no, it's that Skaven are my main army!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGit.
But seriously, really great work.
They look great, can't wait to see them finished!
