The Ostland Hawks Return

So this is a painting record for myself, but we will see how this develops….

I played and painted a lot from around 1990 until university distractions arose around 1998 and after brief occasional returns since then I finally got back into the hobby more consistently around 3 years ago when my friend Snickit took me along to BOYL in 2015. Painting is my main hobby area, but since moving to Edinburgh a year ago I've joined a Blood Bowl club so I'm finally getting some regularly gaming!!

A year ago I thought my focus would be painting up a Tzeentch warband with old 1980s and early 90s models, or a 2nd take on rogue trader / 2nd ed eldar army. I'm proud to say that I do now have a small lead pile with these models ready to go, but with the blood bowl group my attention has switched to getting teams slowly painted for this.

So this first post harks back to my first blood bowl team that I painted when the 3rd ed Blood Bowl game was released. I had painted the Human team black and white and called them the Ostland Hawks. Since then we had sold the game, but having repurchased the 3rd ed box set last year I had in mind to revisit my original team.

Below are pics of the first 3 players (including a “new” addition of a 2nd ed ogre).

Painting notes:

- Need to work on smooth transitions of inks to base colours such as on the armour
- Happy with the shading of the white, but some improvement needed on the black highlighting on the ogre
- Purple ink added a better depth to the skin shading
- No weathering attempted for a cleaner look

Paints:

Armour: Vallejo Beige > Vallejo Golden Brown > GW agrax Earth shade > GW Nuln oil
Skin: GW Flayed one flesh > GW Kislev flesh > GW Cadian fleshtone > GW Reikland fleshshade > GW purple shade
White: Vallejo ivory > GW Fenrisian grey > GW Russ grey > GW blue shade

and some earlier WIP on the Ogre:

Anyway it might be awhile before I return to finish off this team as I really need to start working on my entry for the NAF championship next May...yes I am that slow!

  1. Really nice work, your painting puts mine to shame, you just need to speed up is all!

Glad to see you've started the blog but add in a few extra buttons/features from the layout options, such as the "Follow this Blog" option, that way people will know when you've posted a new entry.
